Is There a Better Digital Camera Than the Canon Digital Rebel XSi?

Is there a better digital camera than the Canon Digital Rebel XSi? In terms of value for money I do not believe that there is, however the Canon Digital Rebel T1i runs it very close. I personally have been a Canon EOS fan ever since they were first introduced over 30 years ago. In fact I am still using the lens that I bought for that original EOS camera.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing the Canon Digital Rebel XSi is the fact that all Canon EOS cameras take exactly the same lenses, they all have a simple bayonet fitting and the Digital cameras will take the old lenses as well as the new. To aid in identification the cameras have a white and a red spot on the bayonet and you line that up with the appropriate spot on the lens, place the lens on the camera and turn it clockwise until it clicks in place. To release the lens you depress the lens release button, which is on the right side of the lens as you look at the camera, and turn it anti clockwise until it is free to remove.

For those that want a point and shoot camera the Canon Digital Rebel XSi can offer you six modes for shooting pictures on automatic (Landscape, Portrait, Sports, Close-up, Night Portrait, No Flash) these modes all produce Jpeg formatted pictures and the camera prioritizes the settings accordingly. These modes are ideal for the total amateur photographer or even the professional in a hurry the camera chooses the best settings in accordance to the the lighting conditions and the type of photograph you are trying to take. For example in the sports mode it chooses continuous auto focusing as you follow your subject, and it shoots in burst mode so that you do not miss the point of the action you want. For most people the quality and accuracy of the photographs thus produced exceeds their expectations and you can certainly exceed the results of the more standard point and shoot cameras that are available. There is also a fully automatic mode where the camera decides on all the settings based on the metering and focus points selected. The EOS Rebel XSi has a 9-point wide area AF sensor with the points set in a diamond pattern. The focus point can be manually selected, or the camera can decide which AF point(s) to use. There are 4 focus modes: One-Shot AF, AI Focus AF, AI Servo AF, and Manual. The central AF point is an improved cross type sensor with high precision for lenses with an aperture of f/2.8 or faster.

For the more advanced photographer you can take control of literally every aspect in the custom mode you can select the ISO film speed (sensor reactivity may be more appropriate a term), the aperture and shutter speed, you can also switch the lens to manual focus and disable the flash. You have options to choose just the aperture and let the camera choose the shutter speed based on its metering, choose the shutter speed and let the camera decide on the aperture.

I have seen many reviews of the Canon Digital Rebel XSi and nearly all conclude that it is indeed the best value camera in its price range and that it is the ultimate entry level SLR (i.e. It is the best starting camera for anyone seriously interested in pursuing photography in the long term). Canon make some of the best lenses and any EOS lens fits any EOS camera which means you have access to one of the largest and best ranges of auto focus lenses available anywhere in the world. Also the lenses you buy today will fit the new EOS body you may decide to buy in 10 Years time. These features make the XSi the most competitive and single best buy camera in the price range. I hope you enjoy yours for as many years as I have mine.

Fantastic set of products for a phenomenal price. I was immediately attracted to this when I recently went looking for my charger for my Canon 20D and couldn't find it anywhere, or the battery that was connected to it as well.

The Battery alone can run you some serious money, and if you don't look around and only shop at big box retailers or camera shops, you're going to get squeezed for it.

The addition of having a car charger is also a godsend for anyone who has ever done any time-lapse shots at night. Sure, you may have to sit there in your car for 30-40 minutes waiting for the battery to charge, but it's worth it. A long exposure shot with an open shutter can drain these batteries completely in about 20 minutes, that goes for the OEM batteries as well.

I don't think I'll ever use that tripod, but it's interesting to look at for about two seconds. Mine hit the trash immediately, but someone may get some use out of it. Putting a 00 camera on something so flimsy is probably not a good idea.

The shipping was quick and well packaged and this particular vendor fulfills the order in good speed.

I have had this printer for quite some time now and I can't find any major flaws. It prints quickly and quietly. The photo quality is excellent. I have scanned over 1000 photos and have been very happy with the scans. The ink is somewhat expensive, but there are generic alternatives out there. I don't think anyone can beat Canon quality. Best multifunction printer I have ever purchased.

As many other reviewers pointed out the printer will stop working after a while. I bought it about 2 years ago and used it very lightly (only changed the black cartridge once in 2 years) and it stopped working. The display screen shows an error (paper jam of some sort) even though there are no jams. This is a known defect by Canon but they will not fix it. I had to dump the piece of crap in the garbage.

Rise My Child Music Video - New Orleans

A partnership among the New Orleans Video Access Center's Digital Filmmaking Institute (DFI), the City of New Orleans and the Keller Family Foundation has led to a workshop to teach local artists about music video production. The program was developed after musician Tonya Boyd-Cannon approached the New Orleans Office of Film and Video to seek advice about producing a music video for her song "Rise My Child," which addresses the challenges of everyday life. "You can see the parallel between the song and what we New Orleanians experience as we rebuild our city," said Jennifer Day, Director of the New Orleans Office of Film and Video. "We wanted to find a way to help Ms. Boyd-Cannon while collaborating with other local artists to create something unique." The Office of Film and Video contacted NOVAC, who provides community-based workshops in digital filmmaking. NOVAC suggested the two work together to create a workshop about music video production. The first workshop was conducted with six students and a crew of five. The Office of Film and Video consulted and assisted with logistical matters such as permitting, while NOVAC created the curriculum. Funding from the Keller Family Foundation provided tuition scholarships for the students. In addition, NOVAC produced the music video and hired local filmmakers to serve as instructors and production crew. "This collaboration is a perfect example of how we as a community of film and video professionals can creatively work together to build talent and opportunities for our citizens that bridge the artistic forms of music and film," said Day. Students were instructed on pre-production planning, budgeting, timelines, location scouting, city permits, camera operation and lighting as part of the three-day, hands-on workshop. Students also played a variety of crew roles, gaining hands-on production experience at shooting locations throughout New Orleans including the Holy Cross Levee, the Musician's Village, and Austerlitz Baptist Church. Filmmakers John Richie, Jonathan Jahnke, Mickey Gaidos, Sean Finnegan and Terrell Jackson coached the student filmmakers as they captured footage of Boyd-Cannon. Tim Ryan, novac's Executive Director and project Producer was thrilled with the outcome. "We have offered one workshop per month on average since Katrina. This was by far the most challenging and rewarding workshop for our students and instructors. It's amazing how much work and detail go into creating a 3-5 minute music video. We're thrilled to have worked with the City on this project. They have helped us continue serving the community with training opportunities while helping out a local musician. We're also happy to be able to offer tuition scholarships to students through a recent grant from the Keller Family Foundation."
